ZAMBIA'S ENERGY REGULATION BOARD (ERB) HAS IN PURSUANT TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT REFORM PROGRAMME (PSDRP) DEVELOPED A SINGLE LICENSE TO DISTRIBUTE, IMPORT AND EXPORT PETROLEUM PRODUCTS TO MAKE THE REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS LESS BURDENSOME.
THE NEW LICENSE CALLED THE “LICENSE TO DISTRIBUTE, IMPORT AND EXPORT PETROLEUM PRODUCTS” IS VALID FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE YEARS.
UNTIL NOW, LICENSES ENGAGED IN THE DISTRIBUTION, IMPORT AND EXPORT OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WERE REQUIRED TO HOLD THREE SEPARATE LICENSES FOR EACH OF THOSE BUSINESS ACTIVITIES.
ERB SAYS THAT THE DECISION TO COMBINE THE PREVIOUSLY SEPARATE LICENSES WILL REDUCE THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IN THE PETROLEUM SUB-SECTOR IN ZAMBIA ADDING THAT ONE AREA THAT WAS IDENTIFIED BY THE PSDRP WAS THE NEED TO STREAMLINE THE LICENSING PROCEDURES UNDERTAKEN BY STATUTORY AND REGULATORY BODIES INCLUDING ERB.
ERB COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER KWALI MFUNI ATATES THAT THE LICENSE ARE OBLIGED TO STRICTLY ADHERE TO AMONG OTHER CONDITIONS STIPULATED IN THE ENERGY REGULATION ACT, CHAPTER 436 LAWS OF THE ZAMBIA, ANY REGULATIONS, STANDARDS AND CODES OF PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES.##########
