ZEC HAS BEING CHALLENGED TELL THE CITIZENS HOW MUCH THE COUNTRY IS GETTING FROM THE MINES

THE ZAMBIA EXTRACTIVE COUNCIL (ZEC) HAS BEING CHALLENGED TELL THE CITIZENS HOW MUCH THE COUNTRY IS GETTING FROM THE MINES.
AND ZEC HAS BEING ADVISED TO ENSURE THAT THEY PUSH FOR ZAMBIANS TO BE SHAREHOLDERS IN THE MINES BY ENSURING THAT ALL THE MINING FIRMS ARE LISTED ON THE LUSAKA STOCK EXCHANGE.
SPEAKING ON RADIO PHOENIX LET THE PEOPLE TALK PROGRAMME THIS MORNING, ZAMBIA REVENUE AUTHORITY ACTING COMMISSIONER DOMESTIC TAXES, MS PRISCILLA BANDA HOWEVER SAID ZAMBIA STANDS TO BENEFIT FROM THE EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRY TRANSPARENCY INIATIVE(EITI) PROCESS AS IT WILL REMOVES SUSPICIONS ON THE REVENUE WHICH  GOVERNMENT COLLECTS FROM THE MINES.
MS BANDA REITERATED THAT ZRA HAS THE CAPACITY TO COLLECT THE REVENUE FROM THE MINES ADDING THAT MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ZEC WILL BE ENGAGED IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
REPRESENTING THE CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATION MR. KALUNGU SAMPA NOTED THAT THE EITI PROCESS WILL HELP INCREASE ACCOUNTABILITY AND OVERSIGHT ON REVENUES FROM THE MINES.
MR SAMPA CALLED ON ZAMBIANS TO TAKE INTEREST IN THE EITI REPORT AND PARTICIPATE IN THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
AND A REPRESENTATIVE FROM CARITAS ZAMBIA MS FUUVYA NYIRONGO SAID THERE IS NEED FOR A STRONG POLITICAL WILL FROM EITHER THE CURRENT OR THE NEXT GOVERNMENT SO THAT THE PROCESS CAN BE SUSTAINED.
IT IS EXACTLY A MONTH SINCE THE MINISTRY OF MINES AND MINERAL DEVELOPMENT LAUNCHED A CAMPAIGN TO CREATE PUBLIC AWARENESS ON THE EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRY TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVE IN ZAMBIA.
