ZAMBIA'S PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA SETS 20TH SEPTEMBER 2011 AS THE DATE FOR THE GENERAL ELECTIONS

PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA HAS ANNOUNCED 20TH SEPTEMBER 2011 AS THE DATE FOR THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
AND PRESIDENT BANDA HAS ANNOUNCED THE SUBSEQUENT DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT AND CABINET ACCORDING TO THE STATUTORY INSTRUMENT NUMBER 75 OF 2011 IN PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 88 OF THE  CONSTITUTION OF ZAMBIA CHAPTER ONE.
SPEAKING DURING THE NATIONAL ADDRESS TODAY, PRESIDENT BANDA SAID ALL ORGANS OF THE STATE WILL CONTINUE TO FUNCTION AND THAT HE WILL CONTINUE TO EXERCISE THE EXECUTIVE POWERS, ASSISTED BY THE REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENT UNTIL A NEW GOVERNMENT COMES INTO POWER.
HE HAS SINCE URGED ALL ZAMBIANS TO CAREFULLY USE THEIR BALLOT TO USHER IN A NEW GOVERNMENT.
PRESIDENT BANDA EXPLAINED THAT HE CONSULTED WITH ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS AND WAS INFORMED THAT MOST LOGISTICS ARE IN PLACE FOR THE HOSTING THE TRIPARTITE ELECTIONS.
HE FURTHER SAYS THE FINAL VOTER REGISTER WILL BE READY BY THE END OF THIS MONTH.
AND PRESIDENT BANDA HAS ANNOUNCED THE SUBSEQUENT DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT AND CABINET ACCORDING TO THE STATUTORY INSTRUMENT NUMBER 75 OF 2011.
HE HAS THANKED THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT AND CABINET FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND THEIR EFFORT IN DEVELOPING THE NATIONAL ECONOMY DURING THEIR TENURE OF OFFICE.
THE PRESIDENT HAS FURTHER APPEALED TO ALL ASPIRING CANDIDATES TO CONDUCT THEIR CAMPAIGNS IN ALL INTEGRITY, HONOUR AND FAIRNESS.
HE FURTHER SAYS THERE IS NO NEED FOR VIOLENCE DURING THEIR CAMPAIGNS STRESSING THAT THE ELECTORAL CODE OF CONDUCT WILL HAVE TO BE OBSERVED BY ALL CANDIDATES AND CITIZENS AS A WHOLE.
PRESIDENT BANDA ALSO EXPLAINED THAT ALL EYES OF THE WORLD WILL BE ON ZAMBIA HENCE THE NEED FOR ZAMBIANS TO ENSURE THAT PEACE PREVAILS DURING THIS PERIOD.
