THE MEDIA LIAISON COMMITTEE (MLC) HAS POSTPONED THE LAUNCH OF THE ZAMBIA MEDIA COUNCIL (ZAMEC) FROM THE EARLIER ANNOUNCED 3RD MAY TO A FUTURE DATE.
MLC SPOKESPERSON DANIEL SIKAZWE SAYS THE LAUNCH OF THE ZAMBIA MEDIA COUNCIL (ZAMEC), WHICH WAS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE ON WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY (WPFD) HAS BEEN POSTPONED IN ORDER TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT GOVERNMENT’S CONCERNS, EXPRESSED BY THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES, LT. GEN. RONNIE SHIKAPWASHA ON FRIDAY.
MR SIKAZWE SAYS THE MINISTER EMPHASISED THAT GOVERNMENT WAS A MAJOR STAKEHOLDER IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE SELF-REGULATORY SYSTEM AND SO ITS VIEWS SHOULD BE TAKEN ON BOARD.
HE HAS HOWEVER ASSURED THAT DIALOGUE WITH THE GOVERNMENT OVER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE SELF-REGULATORY MECHANISM THAT IS ABLE TO ENFORCE ITS DECISIONS EFFECTIVELY IS ON-GOING.
