MISA ZAMBIA CALLS FOR TRANSFORMATION OF ZAMBIA NATIONAL BROADCASTING CORPORATION INTO A PUBLIC MEDIA SO THAT IT CAN BE ACCOUNTABLE

THE MEDIA INSTITUTE OF SOUTHERN AFRICA-ZAMBIAN CHAPTER CHAIRPERSON DANIEL SIKAZWE HAS CALLED FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF ZAMBIA NATIONAL BROADCASTING CORPORATION INTO A PUBLIC MEDIA SO THAT IT CAN BE ACCOUNTABLE TO ALL THE ZAMBIANS AND NOT THE PARTY IN GOVERNMENT ALONE.

SPEAKING ON RADIO PHOENIX SPONSORED PANOS “OUR VOICE” PROGRAMME TODAY, MR SIKAZWE ADDED THAT THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR THE MEDIA TO OPERATE OUTSIDE THEIR ETHICAL PROVISIONS.
AND THE MISA CHAIRPERSON DISCLOSED THAT MEDIA BODIES ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE RESPONSE FROM GOVERNMENT WITH REGARDS TO LAUNCHING OF THE ZAMBIA MEDIA COUNCIL (ZAMEC).
AND SPEAKING ON THE SAME PROGRAMME PRESS FREEDOM DAY COMMITTEE VICE CHAIRPERSON ANTHONY MULOWA SAID MUCH MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH REGARDS TO PROMOTING MEDIA FREEDOM.
HE ADDS THAT PREPARATIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY WILL BE PRECEDED WITH A TWO DAYS CONFERENCE FOR 120 JOURNALISTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
THE MEDIA CROSS THE WORLD ON 3RD MAY WILL BE CELEBRATING THE PRESS FREEDOM DAY UNDER THE THEME “21ST CENTURY MEDIA:NEW FRONTIERS, NEW BARRIERS AND ETHICAL REPORTING FOR A FREE AND PEACEFUL ELECTORAL PROCESS”.
