Zambian local contractors have been challenged to ensure that they set up their capabilities if they are to be awarded huge projects by the government.
speaking in an interview with radio phoenix works and supply minister mike Mulongoti stressed that unless the local contractors capacities is enhanced, it will be very difficult for them to compete effectively with the foreign contractors.
Mr. Mulongoti explained that at rate at which the construction industry in the country is growing, there is need for local contractors to work hand in hand with the foreign contractors so that they can also acquire so expertise.
Mr. Mulongoti however explained that under the current laws ten percent of contracts must be given to local contractors but was hast to states that actualizing it is usually a challenge.
The construction industry has been recording a significant growth since and some stakeholders say the sector needs trained staff in order to improve the standards of infrastructure in the country.
