THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ZAMBIA HAS BEEN CHALLENGED TO ENSURE THAT THEY GET A DESIRED NUMBER OF CITIZENS TO REGISTER AS VOTERS

THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ZAMBIA HAS BEEN CHALLENGED TO ENSURE THAT THEY GET A DESIRED NUMBER OF CITIZENS TO REGISTER AS VOTERS IN READINESS FOR THIS YEAR’S TRIPARTITE GENERAL POLLS.
ACCORDING TO THE PRELIMINARY 2010 NATIONAL CENSUS RESULTS RELEASED BY THE CENTRAL STATISTICAL OFFICE, THE NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS STANDS AT SLIGHTLY OVER 6 MILLION PERSONS REPRESENTING 47% OF THE COUNTRY’S POPULATION WHICH STANDS AT OVER 13 MILLION.
AND STAKEHOLDERS LIKE THE ANTI-VOTER APATHY PROJECT (AVAP) HAVE BEMOANED THE LOW LEVELS OF CITIZENS REGISTERING AS VOTERS IN THE ONGOING EXERCISE.
AVAP SAYS THE COUNTRY STILL HAS THE LONG WAY TO GO TO HAVE THE DESIRED NUMBER OF VOTERS ON BOARD CONSIDERING THAT TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR THE STAKEHOLDERS TO HARMONIZE THE DOCUMENTS SUCH AS THE VOTER REGISTER VERIFICATION.
