FORMER ZAMBIA NATIONAL TOURISM BOARD CHAIRPERSON ERROL HICKEY SAYS THAT REBRANDING OF ZAMBIA WILL NOT SUCCEED AS LONG AS THE SUPPORTING AND THE NECESSARY INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE TOURISM SECTOR REMAIN UNDEVELOPED.
MR HICKEY EXPLAINS THAT THE ENTIRE REBRANDING PROCESS OF THE ZAMBIA’S TOURISM IS COSTLY AND EXPRESSED DOUBTS THAT THEPROCESS WILL HELP IN INCREASING THE NUMBER OF TOURISTS’ INFLOWS INTO THE COUNTRY.
SPEAKING ON NATIONAL BROADCASTER MID-MORNINGS SHOW TODAY, THE FORMER ZNTB BOSS ADVISED THAT GOVERNMENT TO CONSIDER CHANNELING THE MONEY MEANT FOR REBRANDING INTO MASSIVE MARKETING CAMPAIGN FOR THE COUNTRY’S TOURISM SECTOR BOTH LOCALLY AND ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE.
MR HICKEY WHO IS ALSO RADIO PHOENIX (1996) PROPRIETOR SAID INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVING ACCESS TO VARIOUS TOURISM SITES SHOULD BE A PRIORITY ESPECIALLY IF ZAMBIA IS TO MEET THE 3 MILLION TOURISTS’ INFLOWS BY YEAR END 2015.
AND MR HICKEY CALLED FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND PROVISION OF QUALITY HOSPITALITY SERVICES AT THE COUNTRY’S ENTRY POINTS.
GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM, ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER COOPERATING PARTNERS IS IN THE PROCESS OF REBRANDING THE COUNTRY TOURISM LOGO OF “ZAMBIA THE REAL AFRICA”.
