PROVINCIAL EDUCATION OFFICERS HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO ENSURE THAT NO SCHOOL IS ALLOWED TO CHARGE USER OR TUITION FEES WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.
EDUCATION PERMANENT SECRETARY JAMES MULUNGUSHI HAS FURTHER DIRECTED THAT CANDIDATES SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PAY FOR G.C.E FOR EXAMINATION AT ANY CENTRE OF THEIR CHOICE AND SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO PAY TUITION FEES IF THEY DON’T INTEND TO STUDY AT SUCH SCHOOLS.
MR MULUNGUSHI CHARGED THAT PARENTS’ TEACHER’S ASSOCIATION SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN DECIDING THE AMOUNTS OF USERS/TUITION FEES TO BE PAID AND THAT PROVINCIAL EDUCATION OFFICERS SHOULD FURTHER TAKE ACTIVE ROLE WHEN SCHOOLS ORGANIZE P.T.A MEETINGS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE.
THE EDUCATION PERMANENT SECRETARY HAS SAID THIS IN A NEWS STATEMENT TO RADIO PHOENIX TODAY STRESSING THAT THIS HAS CAME AS A RESULT OF THE REVELATIONS THAT A NUMBER OF SCHOOLS ARE CHARGING USER FEES WITHOUT APPROVAL BY THE MINISTRY AS THE CASE IS SUPPOSED TO BE.
MR MULUNGUSHI ADDED THAT A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS COMING FROM PARENTS HAS ALSO NECESSITATED THE COMING UP WITH THESE DIRECTIVES.
