Lusaka magistrate cort fines Munali and Mandevu parliamentarians after finding them guilty of unnecessary honking

THE LUSAKA MAGISTRATE COURT HAS FINED MUNALI AND MANDEVU PATRIOTIC FRONT MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT, MUMBI PHIRI AND JEAN KAPATA AFTER FINDING THEM GUILTY OF UNNECESSARY HONKING.
DELIVERING JUDGMENT THIS MORNING IN THE LUSAKA, CHIEF RESIDENT MAGISTRATE CHARLES KAFUNDA TOLD THE COURT THAT THE OFFENCE THE DUO COMMITTED OF UNNECESSARY HOOTING ATTRACTS SANCTIONS.
AND FOLLOWING MITIGATION BY DEFENSE LAWYER REMY MAINZA URGING THE COURT TO CONSIDER A FINE FOR HIS CLIENTS, MAGISTRATE KAFUNDA FINED THE TWO MPS 750 PENALTY UNITS EQUIVALENT TO 135 THOUSAND KWACHA EACH OR 30 DAYS SIMPLE IMPRISONMENT IN DEFAULT.
THE JUDGMENT TODAY FOLLOWS THE PROTEST THE TWO CONDUCTED EARLY THIS YEAR BY HONKING AFTER THE COURTS ACQUITTED FORMER SECOND REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT DR FREDRICK CHILUBA OF ALL CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS.
THE GOVERNMENT REFUSED TO APPEAL TO THE HIGH COURT AND THIS PROMPTED MANY CITIZENS TO PROTEST BY WAY OF HONKING EVERY FRIDAY AT 17 HOURS.
