Zambia's major political parties urged to promote internal democracy

MAJOR POLITICAL PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY HAVE BEEN URGED TO PROMOTE INTRA-PARTY DEMOCRACY AND ALLOW TO BE CHALLENGED BY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SAME PARTY AT THE CONVENTION.
IN AN INTERVIEW WITH RADIO PHOENIX ZAMBIA CHRISTIAN COALITION SPOKESPERSON JOHN MWENDAPOLE SAYS THE CURRENT SCENARIO WERE THE MMD SAY PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA SHOULD GO UNOPPOSED IS NOT GOOD FOR THE GROWTH OF COUNTRY’S DEMOCRACY.
HE STATES THAT RULING MMD MEMBERS WHO ARE VYING FOR THE SAME POSITION SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CONTEST AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION.
MR MWENDAPOLE HOWEVER NOTED THAT IT WILL NOT WORK WELL FOR THE MMD IF ANOTHER PERSON TAKES OVER THE INCUMBENT PRESIDENT BEARING IN MIND THAT 2011 GENERAL POLLS ARE NEARER.
AND HE ALSO SAID THE MAJOR OPPOSITION LEADER MR. MICHAEL SATA SHOULD ALLOW OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PATRIOTIC FRONT TO CHALLENGE AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION STRESSING THAT DICTATORIAL TENDENCY THAT HE EXHIBITS SHOULD BE CURTAILED.
THE RULING MMD HAS SET APRIL 2011 AS THE MONTH IN WHICH THEY WILL HAVE THE NATIONAL CONVENTION WHILE THE PATRIOTIC FRONT WHICH HAS NEVER GONE FOR A NATIONAL CONVENTION IS YET TO SET THE DATE.
