ZAMBIA TO RECEIVE $28.3 MILLION IN EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY (ECF) FROM THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND (IMF).

ZAMBIA IS SET TO RECEIVE $28.3 MILLION IN EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY (ECF) FROM THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND (IMF).
THE BRETON WOOD’S INSTITUTION GOT IMPRESSED WITH THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE.
ACCORDING TO INFORMATION POSTED ON THE FUND’S WEBSITE ,THE DECISION TO APPROVE THE EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY  ARRANGEMENT WAS ARRIVED AT AFTER THE IMF EXECUTIVE BOARD COMPLETED THE FIFTH REVIEW UNDER EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY  ARRANGEMENT WITH ZAMBIA.
THE IMF STATEMENT SAYS COMPLETION OF THE REVIEW ENABLES THE IMMEDIATE DISBURSEMENT OF AN AMOUNT EQUIVALENT TO $28.3 MILLION AND BRINGS THE TOTAL DISBURSEMENTS UNDER THE ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND THE IMF TO $310.3 MILLION.
ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT, THE ECF ARRANGEMENT FOR ZAMBIA WAS ORIGINALLY APPROVED IN JUNE 2008 AND THEN AUGMENTED IN MAY 2009 BY ABOUT US$256.4 MILLION. 
ZAMBIA HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE FUND SINCE SEPTEMBER 1965.
ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT, ZAMBIA HAS BEEN ACCREDITED FOR PUTTING IN PLACE SOUND MACROECONOMIC POLICIES THAT HAVE SPURRED ECONOMIC GROWTH AND SUPPRESSED PRICE RISES.
ACCORDING TO MANAGING DIRECTOR AND ACTING CHAIRMAN OF THE IMF EXECUTIVE BOARD,  NAOYUKI SHINOHARA, THE COUNTRY HAS ALSO MADE STRIDES IN MAKING CREDIT ACCESSIBLE TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR, A VITAL STEP IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
