A Z ambian economist describes as redundant the position taken by govt on economic growth

AN ECONOMIST HAS DESCRIBED AS REDUNDANT THE POSITION TAKEN BY GOVERNMENT THAT IT WILL TAKE THE COUNTRY YEARS FOR THE ZAMBIANS TO START BENEFITTING FROM THE ECONOMIC GROWTH THAT HAS BEEN REGISTERED.
IN AN INTERVIEW WITH RADIO PHOENIX, PROFESSOR OLIVER SAASA EXPLAINS THAT ZAMBIANS DO NOT NEED TO WAIT FOR YEARS BEFORE THEY CAN START BENEFITTING FROM THE GROWTH THAT THE COUNTRY HAS RECORDED.
PROFESSOR SAASA ARGUES THAT THE BELIEF THAT THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN FOCUSING SO MUCH ON POVERTY REDUCTION FOR TOO LONG AND THAT WHAT IS NEEDED NOW IS TO SHIFT TO WEALTH CREATION IS MISPLACED.
HE EXPLAINS THAT THE WEALTH CREATION MUST BE DONE FOR A PURPOSE AS IT MUST NOT JUST BE ABOUT GETTING MONEY RATHER IT SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON IMPROVING THE SOCIAL WELFARE OF THE GENERAL CITIZENRY.
PROFESSOR SAASA HAS SINCE STATED THAT POVERTY REDUCTION MUST BE GOVERNMENT’S NUMBER ONE TARGET EVEN AS IT PURSUES WEALTH CREATION.
