ALL THE NURSES AT MPULUNGU GENERAL HOSPITAL ARE ALLEGED TO HAVE BEEN TRANSFERED TO OTHER TOWNS.
ACCORDING TO SOURCES, THIS FOLLOWS A GO SLOW THAT WAS STAGED RECENTLY BY THE HEALTH WORKERS AT THE HOSPITAL WHO ARE ALLEGEDLY REFUSING TO ATTEND TO PATIENTS.
SOURCES ALLEGE THAT THE NURSES HAVE BEEN TOLD TO PACK THEIR BAGS IN READINESS FOR THE ALLEGED TRANSFERS AFTER THE WARNING OF DISSMISAL FOR FAILURE TO ATTENDING TO PATIENTS.
AND WHEN CONTACTED FOR A COMMENT MPULUNGU DISTRICT HEALTH MEDICAL OFFICER A DR LWIMBA REFUSED TO COMMENT OVER THE MATTER AND REEFERD ALL THE QUESTIONS TO HEALTH MINISTRY ACTING SPOKESPERSON DR CHIZEMA WHO COULD NOT BE REACHED BY PRESS TIME.
DR LWIMBA ACCUSED THE MEDIA OF BEING UNPROFESSIONAL FOR REVIEWING THE INFORMATION THAT NURSES AT THE HOSPITAL WERE REFUSING TO ATTEND TO PATIENTS BECAUSE PEOPLE IN THE AREA VOTED FOR MMD CANDIDATE WHO LATER EMERGED WINNER OF THE BY ELECTION.
MEANWHILE, A RESEARCH STUDY ON ZAMBIA RELEASED BY THE REGIONAL NETWORK ON AIDS, LIVELIHOODS AND FOOD SECURITY (RENEWAL), HAS REVEALED THAT HIV/AIDS AND OTHER CHRONIC ILLNESSES ACCOUNTED FOR CLOSE TO 13 PER CENT OF AGRICULTURAL STAFF DEATHS FROM 2002 TO 2007, ROBBING EXTENSION AGENCIES OF THEIR VALUABLE WORKFORCE AND REDUCING THEIR EFFECTIVENESS.
