DMMU THIS FRIDAY T MEET TO DISCUSS VARIOUS DRAINAGE CHALLENGES


VICE PRESIDENT GEORGE KUNDA SAYS THE DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND MITIGATION UNITY COUNCIL OF MINISTERS WILL THIS FRIDAY MET TO DISCUSS THE VARIOUS CHALLENGES WHICH THE DIFFERENT TOWNS ARE FACING IN TERMS OF HAVING PROPER DRAINAGES TO AVERT FLOODING IN AREAS SUCH AS KAMWALA, KANYAMA AND OTHER PLACES.
SPEAKING TODAY WHEN HE TOURED THE KAMWALA AREA WHERE THE DISASTER MANAGEMENT UNITY HAS STARTED WORKING ON DRAINAGES IN VIEW OF THE START OF THE RAIN SEASON MR. KUNDA STATED THAT GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WANT TO HAVE REPORTS OF CHOLERA HENCE THE REASON IT HAS EMBARKED ON DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION IN AREAS WHICH WERE FLOODED LAST YEAR.
MR. KUNDA SAYS GOVERNMENT WILL CONTINUE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF FLOODING AND POOR DRAINAGES IN THE COUNTRY SO THAT PEOPLE’S LIVES ARE PROTECTED AND HAVE A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.
HE STATED THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THE SITUATION OF CERTAIN AREAS HAVING FLOODS AND GETTING FLOODED DURING RAIN SEASONS IS BY HAVING A PROPER DRAINAGE IN PLACE AND ENSURING THAT THEY ARE NOT BLOCKED BY THE SAME DIRTY WHICH MIGHTY PUT PEOPLE’S LIVES AT RISK.
MR KUNDA SAYS THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS ON DISASTER AND MANAGEMENT MITIGATION UNITY WHICH HE CHAIRS AND CO-CHAIRED BY THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS WILL MEET AND LOOK AT HOW IT CAN HELP THE OFFICES OF DMMU AND VARIOUS DISTRICTS MITIGATE FLOODS AS THE GOVERNMENT HAS RELEASED ABOUT 3BILLION KWACHA IN THIS YEARS BUDGET.
