The suspension slapped on lcc to be lifted soon

Government has disclosed that it is working around the clock to ensure that the suspension slapped on Livingstone city council last year is lifted.

in February this year Government suspended the Livingstone city council and only appointed a local government administrator to discharge the functions of the council.

The then minister dr Eustarckio Kazonga disclosed that  the had suspension was due to the internal squabbling among the councilors and officers, particularly the office of the mayor and town clerk, “which he said brought unwanted embarrassment.

But Livingstone council deputy mayor Aggrey Njekwa noted that the continued suspension of the council decampaigns the MMD in the 2011 general elections.
mr Njekwa stated that the period of suspension has taken long and appealed to the local government minister to take note that the period of suspension of three months has elapsed and any further extension of the suspension deems it illegal.
He said advised that the best way forward is to harmonize the situation in Livingstone for the betterment of the residents.

Meanwhile, local government and housing minister dr Brian chituwo has told radio phoenix that not too long form now the impasse at the tourists’ capital council will be resolved.

Dr Chituwo said his ministry is aware of the implications that the suspension has on performance of the council in terms of service provision to the residents of livingstone.

Meanwhile, the minister has disclosed that local government public service commission will be put in place soon as the ministry is working towards appointing the commissioners.

And the minister indicated that challenges lie ahead especially with the onset of the rains with fears of waterborne outbreaks and floods in most parts of the country.

Lusaka like many other parts of the country has had in the last years been experiencing unprecedented floods and waterborne disease outbreaks like cholera.
