govt secures a deal for workers at the chinese collum coal mine


GOVERNMENT HAS SECURED AN AGREEMENT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE CONDITIONS OF SERVICE AT THE CHINESE RUN COLLUM COAL MINE IN SINAZONGWE DISTRICT IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE.
THIS COMES AFTER HIGH TENSIONS BETWEEN THE MINERS AND MANAGEMENT WHICH WERE STILL HIGH FOLLOWING THE FATAL INCIDENT WERE FIVE OF THE WORKERS WERE SHOT.
ELEVEN MINERS INCLUDING ONE ONLOOKER LAST MONTH WERE SHOT AND SERIOUS WOUNDED BY CHINESE NATIONALS AT THE COLLUM COAL MINE IN SINAZONGWE DISTRICT IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE.
AND ANNOUCING THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT SOUTHERN PROVINCE MINISTER ELIJAH MUCHIMA SAID THE MINERS WILL NOW BE PAID K450, 000 PER MONTH AS THEIR MINIMAL SALARY.
AND THE OWNERS OF THE MINES HAVE PLEDGED TO CHANGE THE WAY THEY CONDUCT THEIR BUSINESS AND TREATMENT TOWARDS WORKERS.
THE SHOOTING OF THE ELEVEN MINERS AT THE COLLUM COAL MINES ANGERED MOST CITIZENS WITH SOME CALLING FOR THE DEPORTATION OF THE CHINESE NATIONALS WHO SHOT THE ZAMBIAN CITIZENRY.
