SADC To MEET THE GLOBAL DEADLINE OF DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION BROADCASTING MIGRATION BY DECEMBER 31, 2013


SOUTHERN AFRICA DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY SAYS THE DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION BROADCASTING MIGRATION IS THE MAJOR TRANSFORMATION OF THE BROADCASTING SECTOR IN THEVREGION AND THE GLOBAL AS A WHOLE.
NAMIBIA’S MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND CHAIRPERSON OF SADC COMMITTTE OF MINISTERS RESPONSIBLE FOR INFORMATION COMMINICATION AND TECHNOLOGY (ICT) JOEL KAAPANDA SAYS SADC MEMBER STATES NEEDS TO KNOW WHAT THIS DIGITAL MIGRATION IS AND HOW IT AFFECTS THEM.
MR. KAAPANDA SAYS SADC REGION WHICH IS INFORMATION MULTIPLIES WITH THE MEDIA ENABLES TO REACH ALL CITIZENS WITHIN THE SPHERES OF INFLUENCE MATCHING TOWARDS DIGITAL MIGRATION.
HE SAYS DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IN THE PROVISION OF BROADCASTING SERVICES PRIMARILY RELEASES SPECTRUM EFFICIENCY AND FLEXIBILITY OF TECHNOLOGY ALLOWING PROGRAMME COMPRESSION FOR SEVERAL PROGRAMME TRANSMISSION IN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AS OPPOSED A SINGLE ANALOGUE FREQUENCY.
SPEAKING TODAY AT THE MEDIA BRIEFING IN LUSAKA MR. KAAPANDA ADDED THAT THE SADC REGION HAS SINCE BEEN FULLY SEIZED WITH ENSURING THAT THEY MEET THE GLOBAL DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 31, 2013 TO SWITCHOVER.
THE SADC REGION ON BROADCAST SERVICE CONSUMERS OF THE SWIFT MIGRATION FROM ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL TELEVISION REQUIRES MEMBER STATES TO PROVIDE SET TOP BOXES (STB’S)TO ENABLE EXISTING TELEVISION SETS TO OPERATE ON DIGITAL BROADCAST CHANNELS.
