MR LILANDA HOWEVER POINTED THAT DESPITE THIS ACHIEVEMENT, NAKAMBALA STILL FACES CHALLENGES TO MAINTAIN THIS LOW LEVEL AND ERADICATING MALARIA COMPLETELY DUE TO INCREASED COLLECTION WATER POINTS RESULTING FROM THE COMPANY’S EXPANSION PROJECT.
HE ALSO CITED THE FAVOURABLE ENVIRONMENT LIKE IRRIGATION DAMS, EFFLUENT PONDS, LEAKING CANALS, CANE FIELDS AND TEMPERATURES THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED EFFECTIVELY AT LOW COST AS ANOTHER CHALLENGE THAT THIS PROGRAMME FACES.
AND ZAMBIA SUGAR DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCE DOREEN KABUNDA STATED THAT IT IS THROUGH THE PRIVATE PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP THAT THESE STRIDES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE ACHIEVED ADDING THAT THIS IS PART OF INVESTMENT PROGRAMME OF THE COMPANY.
AND DISTRICT MALARIA FOCAL POINT PERSON MR FORTUNE BWEENJE POINTED OUT THAT PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS LIKE SOCIETY FOR FAMILY HEALTH, AND THE CHURCHES ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA(CHAZ) HAS ASSISTED A LOT IN MEETING THE SAID RESULTS.
ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC IS USING VARIOUS INTERVENTIONS SUCH AS INDOOR RESIDUAL SPRAYING, ENVIRONMENTAL SPRAYING, FLY PROOFING OF HOUSES AND DISTRIBUTION OF TREATED BED NETS WITH SPECIAL TARGET ON PREGNANT WOMEN AND CHILDREN TO REDUCE THE CASES OF MALARIA.
