NESAU says trade unions have become weak

The national energy sector and allied workers union has pointed out that the unions in Zambia have become very weak because of the fragmentation among them.
And some critics have mocked the labour movement in the country that they have failed to represent their affiliate due to compromise and lack of bargaining power.
Nesau president Mr Robison Nyirenda has told radio phoenix that is for this reason that his union will soon be merging with power generation and allied workers union of Zambia so that the bargaining power can be enhanced.
Mr Nyirenda said their goal is to have one strong in the entity so that they can have powerful strong representation as workers stating that right now the two unions don’t seem to be strong.
Meanwhile, the union has called on all the companies and retail stores whose employees will be working over time as a result of extended business hours to create incentives for them if productivity is to be upheld.
