ZNUT CALL ON THE LABOUR MOVEMENT TO BE RELEVANT

THE ZAMBIA NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHERS (ZNUT) HAS STRESSED THAT THERE IS NEED FOR THE LABOUR MOVEMENT IN THE COUNTRY TO BE PROACTIVE IN ALL AFFAIRS OF THE COUNTRY IF THEY ARE TO REMAIN RELEVANT.
THE UNION EXPLAINED THAT TIMES ARE CHANGING AND HENCE THE NEED FOR UNION LEADERSHIP TO HAVE WIDER SCOPE OF UNDERSTANDING ON VARIOUS ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEIR MEMBERS WHOM THEY REPRESENT AT DIFFERENT LEVELS.
ZNUT GENERAL SECRETARY NEWMAN BUBALA SAID EVEN AS MUCH AS PEOPLE ARE CALLING FOR VIGILANCE, THERE IS NEED FOR DIALOGUE OF WHICH HE SAID WAS THE ONLY SURE WAY OF PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT.
MEANWHILE, THE UNION HAS CHALLENGED GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE SOCIAL SERVICES ESPECIALLY RURAL AREAS IF THE TEACHERS ARE TO BE RETAINED IN THESE LOCATIONS.
MR. BUBALA STRESSED THAT THERE IS NO WAY GOVERNMENT WOULD EXPECT TEACHERS TO BE IN RURAL AREAS WHEN THEY ARE DETACHED FROM THE MAJOR SOCIAL FACILITIES LIKE BANKS AND HOSPITALS.
HE HAS HOWEVER COMMENDED GOVERNMENT FOR RECRUITING 1,000 TEACHERS BASIC AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS THIS MONTH STATING THAT THIS WILL HELP IN THE DELIVERY OF EDUCATION.
GOVERNMENT SAID THE RECRUITMENT FOLLOWS THE COMPLETION OF THE SELECTION OF CANDIDATES WHO RESPONDED TO THE ADVERTISEMENTS.
